As with every model that leaves the Mercedes-AMG workshop, the centerpiece of the S63 is its engine - a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. Handling shifting duties is a seven-speed automatic transmission, dubbed the SPEEDSHIFT MCT, that utilizes a wet clutch pack in place of a traditional torque converter.
